Looking for something relaxing to do during the holidays? Take a scenic drive to the Oregon Coast and enjoy all the beauty that Oregon offers. Get an early start and explore the Land of Umpqua. Start north of Roseburg at the Winchester Dam and Fish Ladder on the North Umpqua River. Catch an underwater look at Salmon and Steelhead through glass windows set below the water’s surface.
Then venture west on Hwy #138 from Sutherlin, toward Elkton. Be sure to stop and see the Rochester Covered Bridge and the historical marker of Fort Umpqua. In Elkton, visit award-winning wineries and explore the botanical garden.
Driving west along the main Umpqua River, you will want to stop at the Dean Creek Elk Viewing Area just before Reedsport. Learn about coastal history at the Umpqua Discover Center in Reedsport and then head to Winchester Bay to see the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, Umpqua River Lighthouse and museum.
Once you’re heading back to Roseburg, you can spend the afternoon visiting some more wineries. Just follow the wine tour signs to experience the picturesque views!
